I wondered if anyone had a good checklist for spring cleanup and launch. Especially engine/shaft/prop checks for a Yanmar 2GM FWC I guess the standard list begins with: -Bottom check for blisters, chips, etc -Bottom sanding -Bottom paint -Add zinces ---where? -Check all thruhulls & lube them if not done for winter -Battery Charged and Check to hold charge -Check alternator and batt charger -Check all filters, fuel(2),oil -Check all fluids,fuel,oil,antifreeze->add stablizers? -Check stuffing box (lubricate if dripless) -Check shaft coupling bolts -Check and lube throttle cable (both ends) -Check and lube Stop cable (both ends) -Check bildge pump(s) and float switche(s) -Check Water lines (wet the boat) So what did I miss? Thanks

Pretty good list.

Yours is a little different from mine, I only have one shaft zinc. And I don't just check filters, I replace them every Spring: air, fuel, Racor fuel, and oil. I buy the Yanmar "minor" kit which also contains the impellers for my two waterpumps which I also change(and lubricate) along with new gaskets. I oil all of the steering components: chain in the pedestal, sheaves under the cockpit, and the cables themselves. I go to the boat at night and check the running and anchor lights. Finally, I like to start the Yanmar using a bucket and hose, just so I won't hold up the crane operator. Things you should have done during the off season: up the mast to check the rigging, check for rudder play, and check for shaft play. Probably too late now, right? :) I'm sure we are both forgetting things but I have a checklist somewhere.

Ed, Check rudder parts.

If your out of the water I would look at everything below the waterline stripe. Good list. Ray

thanks-ill add to the list

Thanks for your responses. Ill add suggestions to the list. I changed oil and filters before the winter (was told that old oil should not sit in the engine). The rudder and steering checks are a great addition!

Read the article "Spring Recommissioning" in...

The Head Mistress forum Reference Library (on the forum home page). And I also suggest you read the "Fresh Water Maintenance" article.
