Suggestions on buying a new rope clutch (triple)

I need a 2 new rope clutches for my Hunter 340. The one on the boat now is a Spinlock xa. I am not overly sold on it but I know they have made new and improved ones. What brand or type would you suggest I consider buying?

What is your application and line size? Check out the Spinlock XX series clutches. They have tremendous holding power, 50% more than the XA series that you have. I'm using the XX series clutches on my 36 foot boat with 7/16" diameter halyards. No slip, easy to release and they don't damage the line. Highly recommended.

I have Spinlock XTS now but would go with Garhauer when I replace them.

Just purchased Garhauer triple clutch. Rope Clutches 13-11 S Great workmanship plus great price. I've been refitting all my hardware with Garhauer products where possible. -Jon

Go grab some of the Spinlock XAS models. These are a direct replacement for the XA only they work much better. They use the same bolt pattern as the XA as well so they are easy to install. Did this on my 340 and was money well spent.

I have 2 Garhauer triples that are brand new and have never been installed.

I realized that I only needed doubles so I reordered doubles. At that point a friend of mine asked to buy the triples but then that deal fell thru and I never got around to returning them.

As rope technology advances, it has forced improvements in rope clutches. I recommend that anybody contemplating a rope clutch purchase read Practical Sailor's most recent test report.

That's probably a good idea. I just thought I'd be helpful but I guess I'll just put my clutches back on the shelf for another day. Have a good season...

How much would you be looking for for the triple clutches. Are they the 13-11S model? Also, would the holes be compatible with the Spinlock XA's that I am replacing.

No my clutches are the 11-13S model. I believe I paid $150 each for them. In answer to your question will the new mounting holes line up with the old holes the answer is no, very few do. As to price I'll take $200 + shipping.

you will get better results marketing them in the classified section of this forum under gear for sale
