Suggestions DST8000 transducer placement in H34?

I've attached the specs for the DST8000 Transducer as a jpg. Is this a viable replacement for the old analog transducer in the FWD Cabin? If not, do I have any other options for depth & speed? I understand that they have to be place in front of the keel. Is this correct. If this is too big, can someone provide me with a viable option? I have a Raymarine net with an e7d MFD and i70. I'm hoping to do this when I pull the boat to repaint.

Thanks
Jon

without knowing what you have as an analog transducer it is not possible to tell if it will physically fit in the old hole. However 2.5" is a standard size for depth transducers.
You can place them anywhere but they only work well in undisturbed water so I'd say yes you need to put it in front of the keel.
I believe that there needs to be some electronical device that powers the transducer and turns its' "not so digital" signal into Raytalk (also not really digital but they brief it that way)(wires carry voltage not bits). That may be what the i70 does but I have not been to Raymarine for a while so can't say for sure.
Also check which Raytalk version the i70 uses as there are three, Seatalk1, Seatalkng and Seatalk2000. They all have different cables but can be used together with the proper adapter. If you have other Raymarine devices you will need to address how you connect them if they have different Raytalk versions.
good luck

Call Raymarine

I would call raymarine tech support and have many times have called them they will help you for sure and they have always been excellent with answering questions.
I have the DST800 in where my other transducers were just in the front side of keel and work great.
Ray marine has always help me with great info over the years.

Thanks all... I spoke extensively with Raymarine and I'm set up for the transducer, my question was more specifically was if this transducer will fit Height wise in the h34's existing location while being able to close the access cover to the transducers. I know that it must be re drilled to a 2" opening. Has anyone replace those forward transducers with new ones? If so what are their dimensions. I think I barely have 2 1/2" to work with. Thanks... Model

What model transducers do you have,I have the DST-800 in my boat
and changed it from my ST60 speed to the DST-800 and it was same
size for me.
Are your old ones Airmar,my boat is 2007 and the change was all pretty much same size all around.
Let me know what model you have,a friend changed to the newer ones and I think he used a rasp type tool on a drill to make the bigger size hole.
Measure the old transducer and the space from inside hull to floor cover and I can do same.
I am flying to NY tomorrow and be back monday.

Airmar

On Blue Heron Marine .com and look at all the data info for the
DST-800 and see all the measurements for it.
