My YSM12 suddenly became hard to start last week. Batteries are topped off, it has fuel, cranks well, water pump works well and the exhaust elbow is 2 years old. Usually it would start on the 1st crank and suddenly last weekend I had to crank 15 times ( with the through hull closed so as not to flood the cylinder). Any ideas??? I can get it started and when it does it runs great but not easily.

Air in the fuel system.

you may have developed a pinhole leak in a fuel line.

Sounds like air

I'm with Benny. My old renault started doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I drained the filter thinking it may be water, then bled the lines all the way to the injector, and still had to add a little oil in the starting reservoir to get the engine to start. Once started I found that there is a leak around the injector (still trying to figure out exactly where). It is letting air into the system, causing the hard starting. Try using a clean paper towel around all fuel lines to see if you get any diesel on it. Good Luck, Manny
