Suction Tube Length

I just got a new poly holding tank to replace my leaking aluminum. I will install the suction tube (from the top) myself since the manufacture's elbow would stick up above the top of the tank beyond my clearance. I have the threaded elbow and suction tube (1-1/2") ready to go. My question is how far from the bottom of the tank should the tube be and should it be cut off square or at a 45? I asked the manufacturer and they said "we cut our tubes 1/4" shorter than the depth of the tank" but that doesn't really mean 1/4" off the bottom because the tube can be installed into the elbow in different ways. 1/4" does not sound like enough to prevent cloging and sucking against the bottom. Peggy, any suggestions? Thanks.

Bottom of pickup tube should touch the bottom of the tank...

Then, cut it off at an angle--at least 25 degrees, no more than 45, depending upon how much you want to leave in the tank.
