Stupid Newbie Question - Lines to Cockpit

I obviously betray myself as a real newbie, but I am confused about something. Some boats say "all lines lead to cockpit" - which lines are these? Surely jib sheets all lead to the cockpit, no? So is it just the halyards that are made more convenient? A boat I'm looking for does not have all lines leading to the cockpit and don't know how much i should care. I was told it costs about $250 to make the conversion (is this a realistic cost?). I plan to sail solo most of the time, so any input is appreciated.

Lines to cockpit

Hi Garl - Typically when people refer to "all lines leading to the cockpit", they are referring to the halyward lines, and possibly reefing, outhaul, cunningham, and vang lines as well. I wouldn't discount a boat that doesn't have all lines lead to the cockpit, as running lines through extra sheaves adds friction. It is convenient, however. You should set the boat up the way you want and not worry about how others have set it up prior. I personally have my vang and halyards led aft, but run forward to adjust the outhaul and cunningham. Experiment and make changes based on your sailing style. Have fun! Trevor
