Irwin 37 MKII-V Dana Point,
I'm getting ready to replace the packing in my stuffing box, boat in the water. There is a whole range of sizes. I don't want to take the box apart and take out the old packing material and run up to the store to buy the right stuff while ocean pours in. Anybody know the right size packing material for the stuffing box in a 1982 Center cockpit Mark V with a 50 HP Perkins diesel?

My try

My 1980 has a 1 1/8" Shaft and the Perkins has since been replaced by a Yanmar and my packing was 1/4". I have since replaced my packing gland With a PSS Dripless shaft seal which seems to work just fine. Be careful not to overtighten the packing or you can score the shaft and carbon up the engine pretty bad. Have fun Joe Shirley
