If you need the stuffing box repacked because it is leaking, can you do it with the boat in the water?

Electrical Puddy.

This is my idea Just go get some electrical puddy. ball it up in your hands and get it all soft. When you take the stuffing box out, put the electrical puddy in its place. I have not tried this on the Hunter yet. But I have tried it on other boats including the Luger 26 and a South Coast 22 on below the water line parts. Don't act on my advice. Wait to see what others say first. Your Friend The Skipper.....Eric Stanson from Ohio (Lake Erie)

Nothing to be nervous about

Just stick a rag in the hole while you're working on it. Water will come in but it looks worse than it is and as long as you don't take a nap mid-change, no problem.

Sure

When I took the packing nut off,I was surprised at how little water came in. Didn't even need the rag to stop the flow.

Hi gregg

I put the boat in water last week and I noticed the stuffing box is leaking excessively so I guess I need to tighten it , it was dry last year. This will be my third season did you have replace the packing or just tighten it. nick
