Not at all. In fact, seeing two bronze ones crumble (from electrolysis) when I removed them, it might be an advantage in some cases. However, I replaced the one I had with bronze because I had no success trying to remove the packing and renew it with dripless. Probably just me. Regardless, I later replaced it and another with a PSS shaft seal. I would not anticipate an issue with your's but if it bothers you, a bronze replacement or dripless shaft seal are not all that expensive, especially if it's a DYI project.

We had a nylon box on our H'31 since 1985 and it is still working great. Nice thing is that you quite often undo them by hand.
The bronze boxes sometimes get so corroded that they are almost impossible to take apart.

I had the OEM white nylon/derlin stuffing box on my 1986 H28.5 when I bought it 7 years ago. It appeared to be in good shape, but when it came time to replace the packing, I found that to be impossible. This unit typically has 3 compression washers separating 2 rings of packing material and no matter what I tried, I could not remove the forward-most washer to get to and remove the old packing. I decided to replace the unit with a bronze packing gland that is very easy to (1) repack, and (2) keep from corroding (by keeping it lubed with spray lithium). BTW, when I removed the old gland, which had been in service for 19 years, it was in excellent condition.
