Stuffing Box Replacement

Approximately how long can the stuffing box assembly be expected to last? I have an '88 H33.5 that has the original assembly--there is no problem with leakage. My concern is that the marelon compression nut, rubber hose, and clamps will deteriorate over time. Any guidlines for replacement or experience with failures would be appreciated. Needless to say, failure of any part of the assembly could have disasterous results.

Probably outlast bronze or brass.

David: I think that the marelon or whatever plastic you have in the stuffing box will outlast a metal one. They do not corrode or get electrolsis. As many of the owners have stated, if you are going to replace it, you might as well go with a PSS dripless unit.
