I’m working on a rudder repair on my newly-acquired 1981 11.0A, and discovered that the mount for the stuffing box was badly cracked. The bolts had mostly disintegrated and pulled out of the underlying plywood without unscrewing.
It was soaked and rotted all the way through so I chiseled out all the wood. I’m making a replacement and glassing it in tomorrow. Unless someone with more experience has found a better solution?
For someone that is never done fiberglass or boat work at all, this has been a trial by fire, but very gratifying. Thank God for all the retired guys at the boatyard…couldn’t have done it without their advice!
