I would cut the nut off using a hacksaw and take the two halves to a machine shop and have then make a split nut for you. They should be able to measure the nut but may have to visit your boat to get the correct thread dimensions. Such a nut would have small screws each side to hold the two halves together once assembled around the propshaft. Might cost you $100 or so, but worth it for a system that will work on the long term.

Stuffing nut

On my 1999 310 the moulding that is causing Lee's problem has been cut away by the factory to fit the packing. What they did was to rip away the gelcoat exposing the wood former. Coarse work! On my first layup I covered the exposed wood with epoxy (making sure it was dry first!)Lee's problem would be cured by using a rasp or sabre saw to do the same job. BE CAREFUL not to take away more than you need to back away the nut!
