stuck in gear

I've posted this question to the Yahoo saildrive group but have yet to hear back -- hoping someone here can offer advice. I have an OMC saildrive inboard that runs fine except that it sometimes sticks in forward -- a bummer when approaching the dock. It has a single lever box mounted at foot level in the cockpit. A black knob that pushes in (to engage the gears) and out (for neutral) becomes non-functional. I then have to climb under the cockpit and pull the lever- attached to the gear cable- to free it up. It appears to me that I need to pull the box out, dismantle it, grease it up and hope for the best. Has anyone encountered this problem. If it isn't something I can fix, what would be a comparable replacement --assuming I can't find the original.ThanksAlan

check the lever below

IF you go below and remove the panel that covers the acess to the port side of the motor and look up you will se the sever adjutment, make sure there is nothing blocking that adjustment or is does it move.It is a simple adjustment to fix Look at the book I gave you when you got the boat you will see the adjustment just reach up and wiggle it.There must be some one hitting the control inthe cockpit? make sure you remove the lever control handle when sailing!! If this does not work? Call me and take me sailing I think we can fix it.Ron Thweatt Past ownere of your Boat YEA!
