I have an 1985 O'Day 28 with Universal M-12. Over time the T-handle fuel cutoff has become harder and harder to pull out. Greasing the shaft at the control panel helps a bit but not much. Anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you deal with it?

Odaydokay,

Could the end of the cable at the engine be the problem? Lubricate the other end of the cable and the parts it moves. Check for kinks or bends in the cable due to items on the cable below deck. Maybe it's time to replace the shut off cable entirely?

Phil (Love those O'day boats!)

It could be a number of things:

T handle itself: I oil mine occasionally

Cable: T handle end, middle or other end --- go check

Shutoff mechanism inside the engine: shoot, I KNOW ya don't wanna hear that, BUT

If your engine is like our M25, there's a spring loaded "thingy" inside the shutoff on the engine, starboard side, forward.

I replaced mine

Last year. No big deal. Not very expensive and fairly easy to do. Made all the difference in the world.
