Anyone out there have a good fix for stripped screws in fiberglass? I have a number of screw fastenings (floor boards, switch panel, etc) where the fiberglass has lost it's ability to hold a screw.

Filler

Epoxy filler and redrill pilot holes with the size relevant to the screws you are using. Be care full not to drill all the way through the fibreglass.

Cheap method

remove the screw and stuff in a tooth pick or two and break them off. most self taping screws will hold with the extra wood taking up the extra space but you wouldn't use this method on critical hardware. will work fine on floor and switch panels where your problem is

Cheap Method II

I would use a piece of stailess steel wire or two even three if that is what it takes. The toothpick won't last long if it is somwhere that gets wet.

Epoxy

The cheap methods might be a temporary fix, but its not all that hard to just "overdrill" the hole, fill it with a fast cure epoxy and then drill the proper hole for the screw. Only takes a few minutes to do it right. Every boat owner should have some epoxy around anyway.

I agree with Bill

Bill is right on with his Epoxy solution. I just started playing with Epoxy to do a traveller hardware upgrade, and have been very impressed with it's ease of use and solid results.
