We bought a bimini with 1" stainless tubing, then added stainless steel tube "struts" to the sides (2 struts on each side, fore and aft), to provide sufficient strength for use as a "balancing" point when coming down from the cabin top.
When stepping down from the cabin top of either the 26 or 260 using 1 inch aluminum or stainless steel tubing for the bimini, I have seen both style rails collapse when used for one balancing themselves. Therefore, do not rely on this solely or expect it to hold you completely when stepping down into the cockpit area.
