i recently bought a 1985 legend 40.it has a Stream Stay 2 roller furled headsail system.besides having some problem rolling it out (the drum at the base seems to bind when turning it),the aluminum casted fairlead arm broke off. i tried having it soldered, but it snapped again in a few weeks.i can't seem to find the manufacturer, who originally was from ohio.first, does anyone know if they are still in business, and if so,where are they located.second, does anyone know of a dealer who may still carry stream stay parts. lastly, any ideas on the binding of the roller furling??????

Time to rebuild

We've had to rebuild (clean) ours about every year. It works great but the open bearings need to be kept clean. Mike sends S/V Camelot out

Just scrapped my stream stay furler

Hi Alan I also have an 85 h40. Stream Stay is no longer in business from what I understand. So, when my roller furling system died, I replaced it with a Schaeffer 3100 system and it is wonderful. It actually works easily and quietly every time. I had to replace the headstay, the vhf antenna(lightning), the all around light, 2 halyards and the VHF cable. So while the mast was down, I put on bird Be gone to get rid of the cormorants. the whole thing cost about 4500. But that's on Long Island, It's probably cheaper where you are. Good luck Gene Kinney S/V Kin-Ship

rebuild

Mike, Thanks for the reply. The bearings were supposed to be sealed, but that isn't the case.I repacked them with some heavy lubricant, and it seems to be rolling out better now. Thanks again,Alan Fair (ARFSAIL102@aol.com)
