Strange shaped v-berth storage

What is the purpose of the oval shaped storage area under the v-berth mattress?The interior is sort of a preformed "T" shape. Seeems too small for a spare anchor, but the specificc shape inside must be for something.

Something missing?

There should be a table and a leg to stick in the hole on the floor of your cockpit. If it's missing, talk to whom ever sold you your boat.

Doug was accurate about the table, but it only applies to boats with tiller steering.

Table my brains

the older style Hunter 26 had a cockpit table which was stored under the V bertth cushion. The table was discontinued with the 260 but the mold was never changed. Hope that answers your question. Maybe the reason for discontinuing is due to the fact I spilled my brains. Umm! Maybe that is why I am crazy since I lost some brain cells.Crazy Dave
