Storm Sail

I am a fairly novice captain and am about to start sailing my Vega
from Lake Champlain down to the Spanish Virgin Islands with a layover
in Baltimore till November. I am not setting up roller furling (yet)
and the only jibs in my inventory are a 160 and a 130 genoa. I am
going to try to buy a used storm sail but was wondering what
dimensions seem to work well for other Vega owners. Also, I am going
to be hauling out the boat in a couple weeks to re-caulk the
through-hulls and replace the faucet style valves with modern Apollo
ball valves. Should all the connected hardware be replaced or can I
get away with just the valves? Thanks for the support. --Richard

Do a search for storm sail in the group. Message 8009 has some specific
dimensions. One writer mentioned Catalina 25 storm sails work well. In the
process of getting one myself.

Hi,
If you haven't sailed too much you should avoid
conditions where a storm jib is necessary. More
important would be a working jib or a number 2 jib.

Hi Richard;
I have the original sail plan for all Vega sails. I can
send you a copy (but it's in metrics and in Dutch language)
About the through-hulls... since you have the boat on the
dry, I recommend replacing all through-hulls; but NOT with
plastic once.
