We have a 25ft Oday sailboat and wondered how to best utilize the seat lock in the cockpit. It is deep and long. Any ideas?
I could think of a lot of things that I could put in that lazarett for my own needs. I have a similar locker on my O'Day 222 and one of the things I built into my locker is a peg board for hanging my ropes. I keep a spare anchor in this locker for the times when I want to use two anchors Bahamian Moor style in areas where winds and currents change quite often. I also keep two buckets in there, a one gallon weed sprayer filled with water that I use for cooling us off in the cockpit and rinsing off the dishes after I've washed them. I also keep three polytarps in the locker. Two of these tarps are used as Awnings for over the boom and over the forward hatch. I keep the sun shower bag, Aqua Shoes, a plastic troll, and also some plastic putty knives in this locker. If my locker was just a little longer, I would store my mast raising equipment in there and free up some space under my settees. It really depends on how you use your boat. I like to fish and do a lot of overnighters on my boat on a weekly basis in the summer. So consequently I keep large plastic containers in the compartments under my settees with can goods and various food stuff. I'm always looking for ways to utilize the space that I have. The hatch for my cockpit locker on my boat is on the Port side and I'm constantly opening it for things that I need while I'm sailing. So when I first bought my Autohelm autopilot, I installed it over the fuel locker on the Starboard side for that reason. It's a much used locker on my boat and it will be on yours.
