The 343 isn't completely set up yet, but I went down to see her today. They've installed the lazy jacks and bag and the main sail had been dropped into the bag. It was breezy today and the main halyard, which was still attached to the sail, was clanging about against the mast. Tensioning it wasn't possible, it just pulled the end of the sail out of the bag. What do you do? Do people unhook the main halyard when they've taken the sail down and clip it elsewhere or is there a technique of keeping it attached, but tensioning it so it doesn't bang around?

main halyard slap

hello rols our 343 wil be here in U.K in 5 weeks :)) right.. we always clip the main halyard onto the end of the boom where the topping lift is also attached and tension it a little. The topping lift usually takes most of the load when not sailing and apply some mainsheet tension and vang to stop the boom swingling at the dock. This may all be wrong but we are learning here good luck , would love a picture of your new 343 for my ever growing 343 album paul iona-beneteau@blueyonder.co.uk

Clip to the toerail

Clip the halyard away from the mast or boom. I suggest to the toerail.

Mast Cleat Bungy

I tie the halyard to a cleat at the bottom of the mast and use a bungy tied to a shroud to pull it away from the mast. The jacklines on my boat make it akward to tie it torail or anywhere away from the mast. I like the boom-end idea though. I'll give this a try.

ok I'll try the boom end - and hi to 343 owners

OK - thanks for those suggestions, I'll try them all, see which works best. Toerail is probably the simplest. As for a 343 owners club, I don't think so, how many of us are there so far? You're getting hull #88, is that US hull #88? I think my hull was #234 and came from Beneteau France. So there's probably not that many out there. Paul, when she's ready (how long is it going to take!!) I'll send you a picture for your collection, or actually I'll post them up here. All the pictures so far are in various stages of putting together after the ferry trip. I waited from 31st July to now for mine, those last 5 weeks were hell.

possibly

erm, possibly, I don't know, I didn't see the old interior, in fact I didn't see a 343 before I purchased this one because this is the first one in Singapore (although I believe having seen mine, there is at least one other or order). the interior is light though, and it's really nice, only one bad piece of trim, I think it's the heat which makes one of the long pieces of plastic not fit. I'm going to have it cut into two I think. It's a seriously pretty boat, has that 'just right' feel, well just right for the two of us, it should be easy to sail with two or even one, there's enough room at the back, but it's still cosy and there is a lot of space inside. How is your's coming? Are they sailing it over or packing it up and putting it on a transporter?

rols you have new "look" 343

Hi Rols Yes it looks like the new 2006 interior as you have the white surrounds on the freeboard inside, and maybe one forehead bulkhead light ...why they dont put two is beyond me !! Glad to hear you like the new look , I wasnt sure about it initially i did prefer the darker wood but now prefer the lighter wood as it brightens the interior. Do you also have a plastic screen on the galley counter (splahguard)?? my boat will be trucked to me and I should have the exact date this weekend as we are visiting the dealers at the London boat show bye for now franky

good news .

looks like we are going to need a 343 owners list somewhere maybe as part of google lists. I am going to the londondon boat show in a few hours and will be inspecting the 2006 model before mine turns up in Feb. Glad to ear all the positive comments especially on the looks / styling , cant wait to get some user reports on the sailability... franky

made a yahoo group for 343

Group .. good idea. I found that yahoo groups had a whole load of beneteau groups for different models, but none for the 343, so I created one. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/beneteau343/ let's see if we generate any interest.
