rev harder

Brian, I have a Newport 28, located in a slip that usually has a fast cross-current. This requires me to approch and enter the slip very fast to maintain steerage and not get spun around...a very bad feeling. Anyway, as I make the turn into the slip, I shift to neutral, coast a bit, them reverse with full power to stop. The boat is probably moving two knots or so when entering the slip, and will stop within 4-5 feet when I do a full power reverse., My engine is a 14 hp Diesel, fixed two blade prop. The point of all this information is to help you compare your boat's characteristics with a similar sized boat. Mine weighs about 8,000 loaded and full of fuel and water, according to the travelift scale. Hope this helps.
