Stony point NY

I was curious about Stony point NY area on the Hudson. Is the sailing nice? How are the marinas there ? Any good sailboat marinas?
Just looking for new areas to sail that are kind of close to home.

looks like there are lots of marinas up there on both sides of the Hudson. Maybe search for Google reviews to gauge them.

I think there are some members here on SBO that have their boats at Stoney Point but I don't recall who they are. Looking at where you are, have you tried Lake Wallenpaupack? (Am I spelling that right?). I used to take my trailerable there so sail sometimes. It has a free public ramp you can launch from. It's not s bad lake to sail on.

While I'm close to Stoney Point I don't know much about the marina there. It is located in a fairly wide section of the Hudson. You may want to be mindful of the tides but it should be a decent area to sail. I have no idea what kind of launch facilities they have there.

Down lower on the river, there is a public launch under the George Washington bridge, at least there used to be. I haven't looked in quite a few years.

I've motored through there several times. If I recall correctly there are some shallow areas. Other than possible shallows the only concern I would have in a small boat is getting upstream of Stony Point, the river narrows there which will cause the current to increase, ebb tides will be longer and stronger than flood tides.

Your best bet is get a copy of a navigation program to check the depths and obstructions. I'm partial to Aquamaps.

thanks, I sail on lake Wallenpaupack a lot with my friend. He has the largest boat there a Catalina 28. The lake is crazy in summertime , almost dangerous. Powerboats, pontoon boats all with 300 HP engines. Spring and fall it's much better. They lower the lake during the season for the hydro plant. So all the docks/slips are floating ones that bounce around like crazy from the power boats. Ironwood point is the nice quiet sailboat state marina with a ramp. It's a nice lake just summertime is busy.
