We had some things stolen off our boat and I'm not sure where to replace them. Does any one know where to find a compass that mounts on the Edson post? I've found through Edson where to replace our stolen wheel and found where to replace all our electronics. It amazes me that a fellow sailor would do such a thing. I've always bragged about the character of sailors. It only takes one I guess. Thanks for any help you may have regarding replacing the compass. Scott

Compasses

Hi there, sorry to hear to about the theft. As far as the replacement of your compass: Most flush mount and binnacle mount compasses will do. Ritchie has probably the greatest variety. I just purchased the SS-2000 flush mount. Installation took about 10 minutes. At $199.00 it's priced right about in the middle. If you have money to spend, look at the Globemaster binnacle mount. Good luck, Christof

Who says "they" are sailors

My experience with crooks, and in particular crooks that steal marine parts is that they have nothing to do with sailing. I've been in the business of catching them for over 20 years, and most are just street level knuckleheads who see an easy target and take advantage. That's why it's soooo important for marina's and boat owners to meet with their local police crime prevention offiers and have a plan. When you see a stranger walking on your dock do you talk to them. Hi, are you here to see someone? We'll show you to their boat. These simple little things can stop crime before it starts. Someone at you marina, most likely a live aboard must take an interest in whose coming down the dock and be alittle snoopy. Hey if you doubt someones intentions make a call to the police, and let them figure our if the guys legit or not. Lastly, as I could go on for hours, if professional crooks want your stuff no amount of preventative measures will protect it. Your are trying to prevent the occasional thief or opportunist from stealing and making your boat, and marina unattractive to them is your best form of defense. Sorry to ramble Best of luck Bob Knott H380 Harwichport, MA

Suspected Suspect

Thanks for your replies. We are berthed in Long Beach Marina. We talked with Security at the Marina and they said they caught a local sea recovery/tow boat owner/operator removing our outboard off it's perch and our BBQ grill. The police have been notified, but according to them no real investigation takes place. Supposedly, the Tow boat owner was out of town the week of the theft. His excuse for attempting to steal the OB and Grill was that he was getting his money back for towing this boat for the prior owners and not being reimbursed. Can you believe that.

Give Us an Idea of Who Not to Use

Someone like that ought to be removed from everyones rolodex and be put out of business. Since he fessed up to it what company was it? I hope it was not that bird named guy I had heard alot of good things about them.
