Stock Solar Panel on a 386

We have a 2003 Hunter 386 and it came with that stock weird solar panel just forward of the cockpit. I have no idea what it was supposed to do or if it actually does anything anymore. Any ideas on how to test if it is functioning?

Are there any wires coming off the thing? If so, I'd start with a volt meter there.

Trace wires back to see if go to a solar controler or a switch to turn does this site or Hunter have wire diagrams

I believe that solar panel is wired to charge the start battery.
