CAUTION: UPDATE!!!...stinkin' dock neighbors
CAUTION, UPDATE, DANGER...update, bay neighbor called to give me an update: Turns out his charger and batteries were incorrectly hooked up (I don't have full details) and he had been cooking his batteries at full charge 24/7!!! The smell was hydrogen sulfide?!!! Read Mainsails how to articles about proper connections of chargers and batteries. Or hire a professional if not mechanically inclined to such things.
this w/e we had a very interesting experience. Because we weren't at the boat over the last two weeks, we thought our holding tank had fermented. P.U.!!! It was unbearable and at first chance we pumped out. Returning to our slip, we definitely narrowed it down to the vent for our dock neighbors boat.
I offered to help get the boat to the pump out, but he insists it was an engine bay odor... having run it at full throttle, perhaps it was diesel odor???
What would you do? We light-heartedly planned a boat-napping (a la little elf did the maintenance over the night) since he had left without a pumpout. We ended up heading out and anchoring overnight to avoid the foul odors. Today I was able to recruit additional help of his bay neighbor to call him back to insist on a pumpout. As of now, No Worries is tucked away, until we return. Hopefully NOT to the same mal-odiforous malady.
Anyone experience anything similar? Flood the vent tube to keep the odors backed-in? invest in little hanging pine tree car scents? Clothespins on the nose work for a short period, but begin to become uncomfortable in short order. :O) Peggy, how do we fix someone ELSES boat odor issues?!
