still to much snow

Yeah. We're in Bend, OR, for my granddaughter's HS production of Oklahoma. It was about 45 and sun was just setting as we went in. 3 hours later we came out to a dusting of snow frozen on top of the cars and the temp right at 32F. Hoping it blows through tonight since we have to cross the passes back to Albany and we brought the car instead of the 4x4 pickup.
It's getting depressing here. Last half of March and temps this week are at or below freezing. Still snow on the ground and more to come tomorrow.
According to the Golden Snowball Award* web site, on average we get another 10" from now to the end of the snow season, and we're about 19" behind schedule as it is. Better than the 33" behind schedule we were last year, though - we need the water up here, as the lakes were pretty low last season.
But every year, I have to remind myself that March is a snow month here, and snow in April is pretty standard, too. Coming from the metro NYC area, my mind just doesn't want to accept it.
*Annual for-fun only snowfall contest between Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo, Albany, and Binghamton.

I guess I shouldn't complain about high 40's/low 50's around here then?

On a related note, is it just me or do the seasons seem to be shifting along the calender? 10 years ago I recall October being a jacket month with freezing temps overnight, with November having the possibility for snow. . .and March reasonably warm for t-shirt/shorts on sunny days. But every year seems to shift farther along. Like this past year. . .it was nice all the way into December(so nice for so long I forgot to drain the well), and here towards the end of March it is just now making it into the 50's but still freezing overnight. I planned a haul out next week but am having second thoughts. . .

Exactly the reason you will never, ever find me living any further north than the Carolinas. I am defintely not a cold weather person. I'm freezing at 60 degrees. Of course right now its sunny, 66 degrees and I'm sitting on my boat in shorts and T-shirt. I know there is beautiful country up there but having lived in the south all my life there is no way I would survive.

Anyway... we saw the first robin last weekend, the red-wing blackbirds have returned, and yesterday I bought new sneakers. These are all sure signs of spring, my friends.
Dock-work has commenced at the clubs and the sailing magazines have been pulled out and carefully re-read. Launch is 6 short weeks away. 42 sleeps.

Winter just won't let go. March 17th and still lots of snow and plenty of freeze. Its putting a real damper on my layup plans. My kingdom for a large heated garage (if I had a kingdom).

Son back in Minnesota says a foot to foot and a hallf on the ground, 4 to 5 foot snow banks and 20 inches of ice around Minneapolis. Sounds pretty typical to me, but everyone's complaining how long and cold winter is "this year". Forecast for the week shows some snow and single digits with no highs above freezing.
They should record themselves and keep some records, because not is it about the same as its been the last several years, they have had it pretty easy the last 10 years. And with the internet, and maps, and decent vehicles, anyone can pretty much live anywhere they wish. Not much use complaining about winter when its where you choose to live. Me, I chose to live somewhere else. But there must be some revenge in the works cuz we keep getting these cold blasts from the north. 80F yesterday, was bee you tee full. 42F now, windy and rainy.

I don't know about that....it was 80 F in Chicago last year on St. Pats Day, and this year it is in the 30's...I guess I shouldn't complain about high 40's/low 50's around here then?

I keep waiting for a climate shift that puts the Great Lakes in the "warm all year 'round" category! That would be glorious!
it seems like we have been hanging around the freezing point all winter. Snow comes and goes. Today +2 tonight -6 with a chance of flurries (3/4"). tomorrow +1 and rain in the afternoon.

On the same note I see signs of spring everywhere. Robins, Killdeer, Turkey Vultures. Even seen worms on the sidewalk a week and a half ago...
