stiff halyards

is there anything that can be done to "soften" stiff halyard ropes?

Wash Halyards

I have never done this yet but there was an article in I think Sail Magazine and it said just to wash them and this will get the salt out and make them softer. The article was about a year or so ago I think.Rob Morton

Wash

Wash them in a bucket of fresh water and then soak them in fabric softener.
