The un-upholstered inside hull areas of my First 235, (for instance, storage areas, underneath the sink, etc) are coated with a grey finish sealant/paint that is tacky all the time. Stored goods, blankets and supplies stick to the coating over time. The grey paint or whatever it is comes off and sticks to the items as well. It looks like it was applied at the factory. It's a 1989 hull. What is this stuff? Can i overcoat it with something that will dry non-stick, perhaps an epoxy coat of some sort? Or is there some other way to render the coating un-sticky? Any advice appreciated, thanks mike

Someone must have applied that paint.

This must have been done by the boats owner sometime ago. I have seen many F235's (I really like that boat) and I have never seen one that had sticky paint. I don't think this is going to be easy to remove. I would go to a paint store and ask if you might be able to put someone over the top or get the advise from an expert on how to remove it. The good news is that it is very likely that new paint is going to stick to your sticky old paint! Besides the paint how do you like the F235? Good Luck. --Dan

grey sticky paint

dan- i really like the F235. she's fast, particularly in light to medium air. below decks offer great accommodations and functionality for a boat of her size. the quality of the fittings and construction is first rate, and it's a sharp looking boat to boot. the amount of boat that beneteau packed into less than 24 ft is quite amazing. yeah, even with sticky paint, it's a wonderful boat.

Yes Great Boat

Yes this is one of my favorite boats to sail. Frankly I had to give it a double take the first time I looked inside the head/nav station, but once I got over that, I had to admitt that I really like this boat. Because of the head/nav station there a lot more "room" below than you would think. But that's not the reason I like the boat. I like how it sails and the enjoy the high quality fitting and overall construction. As you know we sometimes have heavy winds in SF but with a couple of quick reefs the boat is a joy to sail. I wish I was sailing one right now! If you don't reef quickly here you can have an hand full of boat but as long as you are reefed up you can enjoy sailing in stronger wind conditions too. Enjoy your F235. --Dan
