I was told that my control cables (Forward/Reverse) and (fast/slow) are sticky. They said they might be corroded at the binnacle. So, let me know what you think? Also, how can it be checked.
Thanks, BobCat 30

Replace them..... they wear out in time and are difficult to lubricate. Not a diffcult project. You'll need to remove the control box cover. Check your owner's manual.

Also, check the shift cable end at the tranny. When my cable felt less than smooth I checked and the tranny connection fell apart in my hand. They don't last forever and are in the worse corrosive area -- the bilge.

My surveyor told me that both cables needed to be replaced due to the stiffness. I talked with Edson (assuming your pedistal is Edson) regarding how to remove the cables. Short story, remove compass, disconnect the cables from the levers. If the cables move freely they are not the problem. If the levers remain hard to move, it is the delrin bushing where the lever shaft goes through the housing. Not expensive from Edson. Did the throttle lever in 2004 and I can still move it with one finger. Did not bother with the trans lever.
