Steve, what sort of weekend did you have?

I had a very crappy weekend! The good news was that we had a 3 day weekend (and needed the entire 3 days). We arrived at the boat at about 10P.M. to find signs of visitors (mice). Upon further inspection we found 5 dead mice in our sleeping bags in the V-berth. I rolled it up and shook it out overboard. We decided to spend the nite on our friends boat (Cherubini). They ended up with only 4 dead ones aboard. Now the concensus among mice is that they really like the 1985 H'31 better than a 1979 H'30. Probably because there is more room inside for 15-20 of their closest friends. By Saturday afternoon, we had pretty much cleaned out entire boat. Total count was between 18-24 visitors and countless pounds of crap. All of them were deceased (except for the live one that ran across my wifes bare foot in the cockpit, almost ended my boating days for ever). Needless to say, I am not looking forward to another minute, hour, day or weekend like this again. One of the homes in the marina caught 40 in ONE day, another one got 13 in one day. I do hope the birthing season is over for this year.

Mice

Steve, These mice all show up in one week? Is this an annual thing? I'll have to make sure that I stay away from that place in the fall, or should I go search my boat now? Need to put those little mouse protectors on your dock lines or trade the dog for a good mouser!! Dan Jonas (S/V Feije)

Mixed feelings

In one way I wish I had your problems, I spent the week-end puttering (sputtering would be more appropriate) around the house, this is the first week-end I did not spend on my boat, and not because of mices. The season is over with us and we have a long wait. Seriously; I have some friends storing their boats in Indiantown, Fla and when they pick up their boat they have the same problems. Traps, poison ? what is the answer. A friend had foamed some entrances, but they chewed right through. Any suggestions ? anybody,? apart from the system use up here: we bring the temperature down 25C below zero for three to four months: it works well enough ,bit of an overkill(!) I am afraid I am still looking for some alternatives. Sincerely, J. Hrab

Never before and I hope never again.

Dan: We have had a mouse or two aboard in the last couple of years but nothing like this. We have been in this marina for 18 years and they have never had anything like this happen before. John: Next time you can come on down. We can become the Pied Pipers and lead them all into the river and drown the little SOB's. I would have rather been board. But I must admit, I am glad I got down there and checked things out. Some of their bodies had maggots. Oh ya! My wife was so happy that I thought she was going to kill me (only thing left alive to kill).

Steve!! This Means That......

....the "Big One" is coming! Animal instinct; they KNOW when the earthquakes are coming! These poor frightened animals were just trying to get off the land because they KNOW what's coming!!!! Suggest that you IMMEDIATELY (if not sooner) get on your boat and go sailing and don't return for at LEAST three months!! :>) :>)) :>))) Carl and Jule s/v 'Syzygy'

What if......

Man, I hate mice or rats! They carry all kinds of desease! Fleas, mites, and so on. What if the little guys are working for Ben Laden, maybe they have been released to cause terror to us sailors... hum, better beef up security on your boat ... and take antibotics. Sorry, just a sign of the times we live in. Anyway, do be careful, that sounds really strange and out of any kind of normal play of events. Happy hunting.

David U are correct.

David: So funny that you mentioned that. My mother-in-law said the same thing, it is a terrorist plot. I just hope we have seen the end of this deluge.
