Stern bearing removal, gas engine.

I have a 021 gas engine with combi setup. As the arrangement for stern
tube bearing removable looks to be different from the diesel can
someone describe the procedure to change the bearing and seals?
Thanks, Colin...

VEGAtarinans:

Can't help you with the stern tube but you can get information on the
Albin Gas Engine from www.albinmotor.com....The site has been redone
since I last looked and it has a wealth of information for those of
us too cheap or to0 dumb to pony up the $10,000 for a new motor....

Hi Brian

Stefan at Albin Motor is very helpful and knows the Petrol engine inside-out.
He has loads of spares even remade blocks and heads!

A new Beta is certainly not $10000 more like half ($5000) that! Installation
is not that complicated and can be carried out by anyone iwth basic DIY
skills,
I know as I have installed a few now and I am certainly not very mechanically
minded!

Regards to all

Hi:
I've removed the shaft and sleeve from the 0-21 engine a
few times. It's not to hard to do.
I don't know if you have the parts-catalog- if you do, it
would be easy to follow what I write.
a.) Open the little door at the engine block and loosen the
2 bolts which hold the shaft (watch for the key when you
remove the shaft)
b.) loosen the nut just back of the reversing gear housing
(watch for the clambing ring element that holds the sleeve)
c.) turning the operaing lever, and pulling the shaft back,
you can remove both shaft and sleeve. (If you want to
remove the sleeve from the prop, the sleeve has a LEFT
threat!)
d.) replace the 3 0-rings from the reversing gear and
another 0-ring inside the prop (unscrew the sleeve)
e.) replace the bush and the 2 seal rings from the stuffing
box
f.) replace the stern bearing (cut a V into the old bush
with a hack saw blade, that makes it easy to remove the old
bushing)
Second time around you'll be doing it blindfolded...:)

Wilhelm...You must live in Florida where all the Albin gas engines
lay on the beach and enjoy their retirement knowing that parts are
available at the US distributor in Florida and around the world...For
the rest of us who may not have the expertise needed to repair the
engine ourselves, all the manuals, parts catalogues, tips and
relevant information for all Albin engines is available in PDF format
at albinmotor.com

OK Wilhelm thanks for info. My setup here is with the combi hopefully
the procedure is similar. I will find out tomorrow. The part I am
curious about is the removal of item #15 (stern bearing, complete).
This piece is loose in the hull and I dont see how it is secured to
the fiberglass. Perhaps this will be apparent after the removal of the
prop and shaft. Colin..........
