Has anyone added a radio/cd changer with inside cabin and outside cockpit speakers? If so, where did you mount everything and how does it sound? It seems to me that there really aren't any good out of the way places in the cockpit but I'd sure appreciate suggestions.

Speaker placement

Not sure how the 281 cockpit is laid out but on our 361 the speakers are on each side and beneath the helm seat. Look for either dead space or a locker that would allow you to fit them. On our previous boat, a F310, there wasn't any space like I mentioned so I installed 4 good speakers down below and would just turn the volume up when sailing. It worked well enough and sure beat having a small battery powered radio bouncing around the cockpit. If you do find room consider which direction they'll face as that will impact how they sound. Also keep them far enough away from your compass so there's no influence from their magnets. For what it's worth I just replaced the original speakers with Polks and the difference is amazing. They're weather proof too. Good luck, good music while sailing really adds to the experience. Mike
