Howdy sailors - I'm planning to upgrade the stereo on my Catalina 25, and I was wondering what other Catalina owners experience with stereos has been. Do I need a "marine" stereo, or is a car stereo ok? Also, I would appreciate any specific suggestions as to a brand, model, etc. that you're happy with. The am/fm cassette unit that came with the boat has almost no bass, i.e., the sound is very tinny. There are two speakers inside, and two removable cockpit-mount speakers. I'll probably go to an am/fm/cd and replace all four speakers. Thanks. Joe

If your from Willamette, I used to live ther. Cool little town. Almost any car stereo will work. You are only limited to how much you want to spend. The best upgrades that I did was an equalizer and a 12 disc cd changer. JVC makes a great one with a wireless remote. It's super small and will fit almost anywhere. I got it on the internet for less than $200. Hope this helps. Sean

Boombox

First off, don't be fooled by the "marinized" radios. Ok, it *might* last a year or two longer but not worth the price. I went with a middle ground Aiwa boombox. It's nice that I can take it with, move it around, etc - and it was under $100. Oh, but you're a guy so you probably need all the high end stereo stuff! ;-) LaDonna

Thanks

Thanks, Sean and LaDonna. I'll take a look at both options. LaDonna, like most guys you know, I would love to put in a home theater surround sound system with a sub-woofer that would shake the algae off the bottom. But also like most guys, I'm too cheap. (Plus there's not much room in a Catalina 25). Thanks again! :) Joe
