I bought a sony splash proof boom box with cd (bright yellow is all they come in). It comes with a cigarette lighter attachment which I used , cut off the part that fits into the lighter and bought a small plug similar to the ones that plug into the box itself. I set the sterio on the companionway (leaving is 8 inches or so short of full open) and plug it into a small (similar to the one on the box) plug I mounted on the side of the dome light above the gally. That way I can listen to the music inside by pulling the box inside or outside with the box on the companionway. It seems to work great. Dave Oberholtzer Hydrotherapy

Wires And Speakers

Well John I located my stereo in the center of cabin just in front of support for the mast,I mounted inside speakers inside near crossmember and used that member to run the speaker wire.I used a metal fish wire to run the power and extra speaker wires in between the roof sections down to breaker pannel and out to the side wall with rear speaker wires to the rear of boat where I used through hull fittings to the rear speakers that are mounted under each rear seat, Running the wires in roof took some time. Good Luck HarryPlaganis AINIGMA 26'

John We have a 240 so many of my observations might not apply to your situation. I will say, however, that adding the stereo was one of the neatest improvements we have made to the boat. Very cool. I also elected to buy a higher quality car stereo while buying marine speakers. It seemed to me that the marine stereos were higher priced and lower quality. In terms of running the wires I agree with the other posts to your inquiry. A coat hanger. a lot of patience and ingenuity go a long way. By the way, we have been amazed at how much play time we get from our 12 volt battery. We like to play CD's and we can sail all day and still have plenty of battery to use our lights to get back home at night. Good luck and good sailing Bill Welsch s/v Renewal Certainly the results are well worth the effort.
