I have a 1982 Hunter 25 that I just bought which is setting on a trailer.
Has anyone had any experince stepping the mast and could give
some advice.

Also, if you own the same year and model would appreciate any feedback
regarding the boat.

Thanks Lee

I had a 1979 Hunter 25 and stepped the mast each season in the slip with two young sons helping.
First, we carried the base of the mast to the cabin top, slipped the thru bolt through the mast support leaving it fairly loose, and rested the forward face of the mast on a towel at the bow pulpit; connected the headstay and forward lower stays to their turnbuckles.
Second, we pinned the boom into it's mast fitting and connected the mainsheet at the boom and traveler.
Third, with the boys guiding the mast, I used the mainsheet tackle and the boom as a gin pole to bring the mast upright and hold it there till I connected the backstay and remaining standing rigging. It might be easier in a slip than up on a trailer, just for getting it over the pulpit.

I had my 1984 Hunter 25.5 for 6 years- It may have the same mast base set-up as yours. It was an excellent first boat. Very well build and includes very useful features. I designed and built a mast rasing kit after realizing that its mast was very heavy for me and my wife to handle. The problem is to keep a 30 foot mast from swinging left and right while raising or lowering. If you would like more info and photos -contact me baysailor2000@att.net.
