Trim and free space...
Hello,I have thought of how I might convert my 22 from a tiller to a wheel...I have thought of stripping the column and power steering from my Grandmothers ’79 Pontiac and some how duct taping the works thru some cut outs in the cockpit sole and Sika-Flexing the holes, and anything else that moves that didn’t move before...the thing is that I need the old V8 to be running all the time in order to get any hydraulic advantage from the power steering system pump...I thought of just bolting the works under the cockpit sole and building a fiberglass box to fit over it like some old Bayliner...but then there is the weight and trim characteristics to think of...I imagine I would need one heck of a big water tank forward to offset a GM 350...then this old man with a baseball hat that had ‘I fish’ embroidered onto it came over to my boat and said to me ‘nice finish on yer’ tiller there boy, looks good and tight too, need a cover fer’ it tho’, sun’l bleach it out, and maybe some new docking cleats here, nice boat, got some more of what’s in that glass’...Cheers...SH.
