I have a Hunter 260 with Honda 9.9 and it is tied into the steering via a E-Z Steer bar. The collar that attaches to the stainless steering stantion always comes loose causing very poor coordination with the rudder and motor vibration from mis alignment.. I tighten the collar frequently but it always seems to come loose. What is the best method to fix this problem, I have contiplated several but am sure somebody has a better solution than I. Thank you, everybody has been most helpful!! Earl Keim

Tie Rod

Looks like your setup is similar to mine. It has never been a problem and I don't have to remove it to lift the engine. My dealer set it up this way. Go to this link for more pictures: http://h260.com/ezsteer/ezsteer.html

Thank you but mine is diffferent

Thank you both but mine is different. My rod has a collar that fits around the stainless pole and it tightens then slips after a while. What is the make of your rod. Also the piece that you guys are anchored to has a crack in the starbord side. It seems stable and I am going to try and make the season before replacing it. The crack has nothing to do with the steering collar slipping. My rod is made by EZ steer and was designed this way possibly they have a solution. Your systems seem much better. This was also dealer installed back in 2002. E Keim

I have lock nuts on and have tightened them. possibly some type of rubber wrap under the collar would work. our system may be the answer: thank you. would I ned to get a steering arm from the factory?? All the help is really appreciated!!!! I mey use Mikes system for the remainder of the season. God Bless the Fleet!!! E Keim

Tighten clamp

Earl, I can't find a picture of mine, but if memory serves me right there is a black rubber gasket glued to the inside of the EZ steer clamp that helps with slippage. I also remember having to really tighten it down, but it eventually stayed put.

Thanks Bob

Thank you Bob. We have the same system and I did find a scrap of some type of tape inside the collar. I may try some two sided tape or some similar. Or possibly utilize the PVC method mentioned above. I can not imagine why the other systems were not installed in lieu of the collar that we have. The others seem to be flawless and simply maintainence free!!!! E Keim
