Steering Pedestal

How do you remove the head of the steering pedestal to access the throttle and gear shift lever on a 28.5 Hunter? I took the compass off, but didn't see any way to get to the throttle cable. I need to replace the throttle cable.

Hale, does your pedestal look like this? If so, you should see three or four screws that hold a plastic cowling onto a metal cowling that support the throttle and gear shifter...once the compass is removed.

I'll check it out. It is about the same. I've had the compass out, but don't recall any other screws.
