Steering Pedestal Problem

I have a 1985 28.5 and recently the Gear Shift Lever became inoperable, the problem was caused by a lug that supports the shift cable breaking. This lug is part of a casting which appears to be PVC and supports the engine controls in the steering pedestal, the pedestal was manufactured by "Merriman Yacht Specialties'who are not in business anymore.Has anyone else had problems with these units and is there any source for parts

Check the archives.I replaced the plastic casting assembly with one made of alumn. It worked great and was about 160.00. Let me know if you need a phone number.
