Steering Pedestal Disassembly

Hello everyone,
I have Yacht Specialties pedestal that I am trying to disassemble, to clean and lubricate everything. I am trying to remove the wheel shaft and can't seem to figure out how to remove the chain sprocket. Does anyone know how this is done? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

The sprocket and brake boss are held in position by a pin driven through the shaft. My advice is to leave it alone untill ithere is no way to avoid disassembly unless you are a superb mechanic. To be honest, if you are asking this question the chances of your re-assembling it successfully are slim to nill.. If you follow the info below you'll do just fine.

Just dose the shaft with spray solvent cleaner in place. brake clean, electric contact cleaner, paint thinner, which to me is the universal cleaner/solvent. Use compressed air if you got it to blow it all out. Then lube lightly with "turbine oil" which is a light oil like "3 in one". The same oil is good on the chain because it is enclosed and protected from dirt by the pedestal itself. Make sure you get lube in to the pins. The rollers will take care of themselves as you lube the pins. The pins are what actualy wear and tend to get missed when done by most home mechanics.

When lubing the innards of you pedestal, DO NOT lube the throttle cable. I made this mistake once and am still paying for it....
