Steering in tight places

We tried something different with our new H260. I didn't like the thought of hanging over the back of the open transom to start the outbord in rough seas, so we installed a remote console for the Honda 9.9. However - as installed the motor had no steering controls. We have a tiller. We fashioned a bracket that holds the motor in a straight alignment, and this works, but manuevering in tight places is a little hard. Has any one engineered a way to tie the engine steering to the rudder, but make it so we can still raise the engine when underway? Cindy "Summer's Wine"

Check the archives...

This has been discussed at great length a few times... From what I've seen, most have a connection that is (easily) removed from the motor when you want to raise it, but this shouldn't be a big deal- You have to hang over the stern to raise the outboard anyway, right? --Jon Bastien H25 'Adagio'

Differences in tiller and wheel steering

Most of the stuff in the archives on motor links is on boats with wheel steering. Gary Schotts at Hunter told me that they have made only a handfull of H260's with tiller steering. There are a lot more h26's with tiller steering. I put a post in the photo gallery showing this type of modification, but mine is wheel steering. I'm not sure how your rudder post differs from mine. Hope the info. will be of some help, Joe C. in NC '01 H260 Windward Passage
