How tight should the steering cable be tensioned? I can reach into the aft cockpit locker and push the cable down (or up) about 3 inches, yet it doesn't seem to slip. (I searched the forum archive for an answer without luck ...)

, but not fiddle string tight. 1/2" to 1" in 2' would be reasonable. Running too loose would cause sloppy feel in the wheel and a chance for the cable to jump a pulley. Jeff Peltier

Al, my steering cable is about the same as Jeff's description. Also, Edson suggests putting some 30 weight oil on a rag and running it along the cable for periodic lubrication.
