Steering Cable Replacement H28.5

Has anyone replaced the steering cable lately and can direct me to a supplier? Hunter no longer carries the chain or steering cable going to the steering quadrant on this boat. The cable has frayed at the bronze turning block before ending into the quadrant. Edson Co. sells a kit but the cable ends do not have adjusting screws made into the cable as the original. They are cut ends which will require thimble, locking cable device and then a eye screw. Just more connections that can come loose or require adjustment as it comes under tension. Before I buy from Edson, any lead to a vendor that can get me to something more like what came with the boat is appreciated.

Try a rigger,I think there would be one in your area. They make up shrouds and lifelines, why not steering cables ?

I was unaware of how the ends to stainless steel cables are put together when I posted this thread. Thought this had to be done at factory. I learned at West Marine today that the ends can be swaged. They can rig my cable to have a turnbuckle end similar to what a shroud has at the length I need, which is the same thing I have on the steering cable. ( steering cable probably has a longer thread at the end, however pretty close nonetheless.) They have ordered the hardware end for this and hopefully they will rig this for me next weekend. I am somewhat new to having a boat again and just did not know. But you are right on point Ray! Thanks for your reply.

Well, I finally quit surfing the web for a replacement part. I went to West Marine and they sent the steering chain and the cable to their rigging store location. I was contacted by them and advised that the end fitting for the cable that goes into chain is not longer available. They recommended an aircraft eye fitting instead. So I had them machine int the aircraft eye instead of the heavier fitting that snugly fit inside the chain. They say that the strength of this fitting will do and should not break. The other end of the cable has a turnbuckle type fitting that goes into the steering quadrant which they replaced with an almost exact match. So if they are right, then I should have a good steering chain and cable to last for a number of years.
