Hello everyone,

I am struggling with the idea of converting the factory hanked staysail with boom to a more modern furling system on my 37 cutter. The difficulty is that I see a couple different configurations including boom/block/topping lift and boomless with sheets. Any ideas about which system seems to work best?

I mainly will be using the staysail in heavier weather when the 150 genoa is furled (I think that factory is a 100). I really like the idea of cleaning the deck and having more space to work with. I also have not owned the boat very long, but have sailed her about 70 hours using multiple combinations of sail. She seems very balanced with the 150 alone and I a questioning when I would use the staysail beyond heavy air.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

This was a recent topic, maybe you can find it with "Search". My own feeling is that I too seldom use the staysail to warrant the cost and effort. I also think that having the ability to hank on a storm sail is important. I should add that my yankee is a bit oversized. If you find the earlier thread you will see how a couple of owners accomplished the change. You will also see a recommendation for removing it all together and making a sloop out of your cutter. That boat recently won it's class in the Florida to Mexico race.
