:confused:Need a little help starting renault. I followed manual but???
First, after switching power on to motor at control pannel is there a separate switch for fuel pump and should I hear it clicking away like old british sports car? Second, is throttle and gear shift combined in lever/pull knob control I believe so but don't know how it is suppose to work? Maual does not show it. Third, does battery master have to be on (take it easy) my motor is wired directly to battery and battery selector has loose cable coming from it. Not sure if cable is plus or neg. but could not find fuse pannel so I am tracing out house 12volt system ...could use some tips here too....cheers frank

Hey Frank,

The Renault has a mechanical fuel pump driven by a shaft in the transmission, no noise. I have wheel steering so my throttle is on the right of the pedestal and the shift lever is on the left of the pedestal. The engine stop is the pull knob below the control panel. I'm not sure how your engine is wired but I have a battery switch to the motor under the nav table that looks like it came from the factory. It needs a funny little "key". The procedure to start my renault is to open the seacock for the water, insert "key" for battery switch, push in engine stop knob, if it's cold add oil to the little priming chamber near the air intake and pull overflow knob (mine doesn't have the compression release and there is no glow plug), make sure transmission is in neutral (lever horizontal), throttle about 1/2 way. Turn on the top switch on panel (light should illuminate), leave alternator switch off, hit starter button for a few seconds, then clench my teeth to keep my fillings from falling out from all the vibration!!! Lower throttle to idle and engage the alternator once the engine has started.
