Starting over from scratch

Ok guys, so some of you know our boat got struck by lightning 2 years ago and has been on the hard ever since. We are in the process of cleaning her up and getting her back in the water in time for summer. While we've always made due with the tiller Evenrude 9.9's throttle, and forward and reverse linkage being on the motor itself when we use it in the locked position; I'd love to one day not have to drop the transom railing to make throttle or directional adjustments. The boat has this ignition system and shifter on the starboard side of the boat under the seat I'd love to connect it one day. Does anyone know if I can connect it to my motor if I install a remote control kit on the motor? Or will I have to get a new shift console from Evinrude? I know the boat needs a VERY deep cleaning and that is coming in a week, but like I said it's starting back from the ground up. I appreciate any help you guys can provide. I am providing model numbers and photos if you think you can help me out.

Is that the shift mechanism that was originally used with your current motor? If yes, does that shift mechanism work?
If yes, you’re going to need new shift cables / linkage and a new wiring harness (if electric start). Those current controls look ancient, I doubt if you’re going to be able to find parts; however, an experienced onboard mechanic could probably rig it for you; however, it would be costly.
If no, you will have to determine if your current motor is designed for remote operation and obtain the necessary shifter & cabling from Evinrude. If it is an older motor, parts may be unavailable. An Evinrude mechanic or dealer should be consulted for parts and installation.
If you replace the outboard in the future and remote operation is still desirable, have your outboard dealer help you to select an outboard that is designed for remote operation and order the necessary shifter & cables.

On further inspection,
Does the faceplate on the controls indicate "Nissan", made in Japan?
That isn't going to work with an Evinrude. So, check or have a mechanic/dealer check to determine if your Evinrude is designed for remote controls, then determine if parts are available. Unless you are thoroughly familiar with installing controls, I would have a qualified mechanic do the installation. If that isn't possible, you're going to have to continue dropping the transom rails to shift /control manually or bite the bullet and buy a new outboard and associated shifter & control cables.
Appears that you have quite a bit of work ahead of you before you're sailing again. Good luck with the repairs.

BigEasy you have a good eye even through all the buildup. Yes, indeed it does say Nissan and made in Japan on it. I did not know if this electric start and engine control were original to the boat in 89' or not. I cannot seem to find anything about it anywhere. The listed owner's manual on here does not say what motor came with the boat originally. I think what I am going to do is suck it up this year and make do with the having to go to the motor to change from forward to reverse and throttle, then next year go ahead and put a new 4 stroke on it and have it installed by a dealer. I am going to have to invest so much money to get her back this year that an investment like that will have to wait. Do you recommend I go back with something like a 9.9 Mercury, or do you think it would handle a 15 hp just to give me a bit more speed when motoring?

The boat is fairly large, so I would go with a 15hp if possible. Not so much for speed but for power in the event you get caught in a blow and need to overcome wind and waves to reach safe harbor. I would also confer with a knowledgeable dealer for selection of an outboard that can accommodate the shift & throttle controls that you desire.
