Does anyone know the volts and amperage specifications for the starter/solenoid on a universal M-35? Or, is there a part number that I can use to track my info down? I'm having an electrical problem with my 1991 Catalina 34. In November I replaced a shorted wire going from my starter button to my solenoid. When I replaced it, I added a 20 amp fuse on the line that is shown on my schematicts but had not been on the original wire. Last week I had to take my starter/solenoid in for repair and the armature and bushings on my solenoid were fried. The solenoid was replaced and the engine started 3 times. Now I'm blowing 20 amp fuses every time I try to start the engine. I went back to the shop where the solenoid was repaired and they have told me the starter is working, and pulling 38 amps. Obviously this is why I'm blowing fuses, but I need to know what the normal pull is for the starter. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Ken

solenoid current

There's something wrong with your story. The starter button which is used to energize the starter solenoid shouldn't be handling that kind of current. It should be only a couple of Amps. The starter motor current can peak over 100 Amps, but I don't know what the continuous current to turn the motor over would be - but its certainly more than 38 Amps, I would guess. If the starter wire really needs to handle more than a couple of Amps, you should have a relay located close to the starter that is energized by the starter button that can switch the heavier load. jv

Ken Try searching on the related link. Also go to the C34 home page and use that search engine. Better yet, post your question on the message board and see how quickly you receive an answer, specific to your boat and engine. The C34 Website is a tremendous resource for you and your boat. I recommend that you join the C34 Association. Stu C34 Intnl. Assoc. Secretary

Hey Stu, I don't mind you re-posting stuff I write here to the C34 site, but you really should give me, and this site, the credit for it.
