I am having a problem with the starter solenoid clicking then engaging after several tries at starting. It seems to be a solenoid problem - corossion damage that was not fixed by previous owner. Is the solenoid available as a replacement part (2GM20F engine).

Sounds like you have just run into the classic Hunter under-designed starter button wiring circuit problem!! The solenoid doesn't work properly because there is so much electrical resistance in this control circuit that it is now getting well under 12V to work with. Check the forum archives before you spend real money on a replacement solenoid. Look into fitting a 12V relay (worth well under $10 at the right electronics shop) controlled from the same starter button circuit, but feeding a full 12V from the battery to your existing starter solenoid. I did mine a coupe of months back. Low cost boating magic!

Neil is right on

A horn relay from an auto parts store works nicely and is designed for an outside environment.

How about a fix wiring diagram.

I have the same problem and have tried to find a solution for a few years. Could someone display a wiring diagram of the fix. Or send me one. I can be located thru the Owner's Directory. Thanks, P.A.

Jump start too

This is definitely a Hunter defect. I keep a screwdriver handy to jump start from inside the pedastal. You still have to turn the key, of course. What's amusing about the failure to start is the look on passengers' faces when it begins to dawn on them that the engine won't start.

solenoid wiring failure is common

I've seen lots written about this problem which is common to different boats - there is a diagram pictorializing the fix somewhere on the Catalina 36 or 47 forum. If I can find it later, I'll post a link. It is pretty simple as I recall involving a high current switch and relatively small wires to the solenoid.

Yeah, let's go easy on Hunter.

It's a Yanmar problem. I fixed mine with a new harness. And to keep it performing like new for life, I coated the extension harness plugs with silicone grease. Still perfect starting after 7 years. Of course, if Hunter would just do the same thing, we wouldn't be howling here! Those @#$%!
