starter for MD-6b

Hi group
Not only do I need a source for a alternater for a volvo MD-6b but
find I should find a re-built starter as well.
I would accept a used n if anyone out there has one to sell .
I am planning a trip to Baltimore in September my starter is acting
up.
Alternator ics putting out 13.25 and that's at lower end .
Oh well

Have you tried taking them in to a auto electrical shop to have them
repaired or rebuilt? I haven't done it with a Volvo starter or alternator,
but I have done it with other marine starters and alternators, including an
outboard motor starter.The outboard dealer wanted over $400 for a new
starter; an auto electrical shop charged $85 to fix it.

Hi All
I pulled the starter and alt off an MD6A last year and took them to a rebuilder, he was done in a day. New bearings, brushes etc since both were syarting to have issues, and the total was $120

Hi Claude and Mort,
Took Alternater to auto shop and was told parts would be impossible to find, have not done same with starter but will do so.

What amps should an alternator put out? Mine is reading about 11 plus.

The alternator for a MD6b should put out ~35 amps and 13.2-14.2 vdc.
For those of you need a replacement, I would go to a alternator
rebuilder for a remanufactured alternator. You might have better luck
at one near in a marine area.
